Bummer to take off the interview with Mark Chiarello, he's so achingly cool (check out the article that featured him in Juxtapoz magazine, great pic of him taken by photographer Catherine Stratton) he'll be back at the gallery soon, for his next show, featuring art of the movies, or the movies we love, which might or might not be the movies you love. (you can always ask me what our faves are, which we bounced around the web, Michael, Mark, me, and some other of my friends...)
we sold EVERY SINGLE ONE of his Heroes of the Negro Leagues pieces, and why not, they were amazing! Mark just did a gorgeous commission of Jack Dempsey--it was great! anyway, suffice to say it's the show i'm the proudest of ever. Hope to have other shows that important and compelling again soon...
meanwhile, we have a new show coming up in July with Tim Rogerson, who is very up and coming, does interpretive Disney art, but also fine art that is stylized movie and pop art, and it's fun, colorful, and interesting. I think some of you will be really into it. He's a bit love it or hate it, but some of the best art is, right? Check it out on the what's new page. Come to the opening of the show where Tim will be present 2-6 pm, and so will Merrie Lasky, who some of you know from my 20 YEARS of knowing her!!! She'll be talking also about the Disney Fine Art Glass we just started carrying, that's painted upside down inside out and backwards... with a tiny brush made of wolf hair (no, he's not hurt, just has a teeny bald spot.) Pics to follow on that one. Come check them out too, you won't believe how detailed and on model these crystal encased paintings are. The technique dates back to thousands of years ago in China.
and i'll be presenting at the Harry Potter convention this year on the 10th and 11th of July (one day before the Rogerson opening!) showing the Mary Grandpre pieces that have been released so far and talking about her influences, style, etc., hope i'm up to the task, or i'd better practice my stand up comedienne skills. We are honored to have been asked, so I thought i'd better do it! Oh, well, I love the Harry Potter fans, so i'm sure it will be fun. We'll let you know how it went!
In August we'll have some exciting new animation art, and we've uncovered an amazing source for vintage Disney that would excite anyone who loves great provenance with their art. Ask us about what we've found, or to get on a wishlist, even the rarest might be showing up soon.
